Here is how this works in practice. Here is the breakdown. South Africa's natural light is one of the country's greatest production assets. Lighting teams here work to complement rather than fight it. That said, shoots still rely on full lighting departments for interiors, night work and shaping daylight across locations as different as the Bo-Kaap, the Karoo, the Cape Winelands and the Kruger bushveld.

English is the working language of the lighting crew, ATA carnets are accepted for any imported fixtures, and the SAST time zone at UTC+2 aligns with European schedules. The DTIC production rebates, in the past a rebates of around 25 percent of qualifying local spend for foreign shoots, together with the favourable rand exchange rate, makes gear-heavy lighting setups notably cost-good.
