Professional Film Equipment Rental South Africa
Here is how this works in practice. Productions working in South Africa — from Johannesburg studio shoots to remote location work in the Karoo or along the Garden Route — need trusted access to professional gear that travels well and performs consistently. Our gear inventory covers cinema cameras, lighting systems, audio packages, grip hardware, and data running tools, all kept to broadcast and theatrical standards. We supply gear for single-day commercial shoots and long-form productions running for weeks across multiple South African locations, making sure scene matching of kit throughout your schedule.
Our South African rental inventory is selected for Karoo dust, Cape southeasters, and Kruger heat alike — built for kit that has to travel.
Here is the short of it. Camera Gear packages include cinema-grade bodies and matched lens sets suited to high-resolution acquisition in demanding outdoor conditions. Lighting kit covers portable LED, HMI, and power distribution options for both controlled studio environments and unpredictable natural-light locations. Productions capturing live sound in demanding acoustic environments — such as Durban's busy port areas or Johannesburg's CBD — rely on our Audio Gear packages. This include location sound recorders, wireless microphone systems, and monitoring gear. Our Grip kit and Vehicles & Rigs complete the offering, supporting camera movement needs from simple slider work to full vehicle-mounted systems.
FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
What equipment do you have available?
We source from TSF, Panavision Pretoria, RVZ, and other major South African rental houses. Current inventory access includes ARRI Alexa 35 and Mini LF, RED V-RAPTOR and Komodo, Sony VENICE 2—plus the full lens ecosystem from Zeiss Supreme to Cooke S7 to Angenieux zooms. Lighting runs from ARRI SkyPanel X to M-series HMIs to Astera tubes. Audio is Lectrosonics, Wisycom, Sound Devices. If it's in professional use, we can get it.
Do you provide technical support during the shoot?
The company provides phone support for all packages while technicians will be available on set for building complicated structures. The camera preparation takes place on the previous day when the AC team should be available for the shoot—we do't send untested gear to set. If something fails during the shoot, rental houses in Pretoria can usually swap units same-day. Regional shoots are trickier, so we build in backup gear for anything mission-critical.
Can you create custom equipment packages?
That's the default. DPs spec their camera packages, gaffers pull their lighting orders, sound mixers have their preferred wireless frequencies. We coordinate across departments so everything works together—matching power draws to generator capacity, confirming lens coverage for the sensor size, making sure wireless audio and video don't conflict. The package fits the show, not the other way around.
What is included with equipment rental?
Batteries charged and tested, media cards formatted, cables and adapters for whatever you're plugging into. Cases for transport, expendables like gels and diffusion on request. We include backup bodies for cameras and backup transmitters for audio—the stuff that saves the day when Murphy's Law kicks in. Setup support and walkthroughs for crew who haven't used specific gear before.
How does pricing and insurance work?
The South African rental houses operate based on daily rates which provide discounted prices for weekly bookings starting from the fourth or fifth day of rental. We quote in USD, all-in except for damage waivers. The equipment requires production insurance which accepts most international policies but South African houses need to see the certificate before they will release the content. The amount of deposits differs between basic packages which require little to no deposit and high-value lenses and specialty items which need larger deposits.
